Realy the Trunk?

Pictures as of 06/01/2015

Didn't think the trunk alone would end up as its own page, however this little car has proved me wrong still again. The trunk had previous repair work from the 60's that at first glance looked good. Well it was good and strong but not done to the standard required. 100 hours later... yes i said 100 hours later the trunk has been fixed and is as strong if not stronger and is done. Lesson #1 learned from T.I.N. just goes to show you DON'T ever think the previous repair is good. take the time and remove it and inspect for yourself. This will save you from having things come apart at a later date. And if there is a lesson 1 there must of course be a Lesson #2, just because it’s a simple piece like a trunk do it right.. or don’t do it.

You can see the lower section of the trunk has a patch installed of "green" fiberglass from the mid/late 1960's. The patch is good but needed work. What you can’t see clearly from the above pictures is that whatever hit the lower section of the trunk drove the trunk forward and subsequently broke fiberglass that was patched from below using matt and body filler above. All of this must be removed and done right.

The more we ground away the old repair the worse it got.. until there was no more... no more old repair and no more trunk. Now the work of rebuilding can begin. New pieces are spliced in

After more than 200 man hours, and lot of sore fingers from sanding the result... well a truck that once painted will be unrecognizable from what we started with and will look like it did when it left the factory.. we can now say we are officially OUT OF THE TRUNK.

March 2021, ---- while waiting for the paint shop to make space for the paint we decided the truck underside was not going to pass our final quality requirements. ..SO... we decided to cut out over 200 hours of work an start all over. Yes i said that right we removed the entire truck and started over. Hindsight being 20x20 it is what we should have done form the start. The section was cut out and new one spliced in, reinforced and .. WOW

Above the before pictures,, well not really before. These are after 200  man hours of repair. As you can see the interior of the truck came out great however the underside was a rel mess and would never meet the quality for a NCRS restoration.

Below is the patch we graphed in and again Uncle Ben sanding his fingers away to make the piece fit... Thank Ben

The final product is amazing.... inside and out.
